Good idea but not always accurate
When we received this kit, we opened it up and eventually figured out how to use it. Basically, once you swab your finger with the alcohol rub, and stab it with the lancet, you then put a blood sample in each of the 4 circles. Then, you spread the blood around each circle.
After that, to analyze the results, you look to see which circles have clotted---showing a reaction with the reagents in the circle. The vendor provides a lookup table to show what to expect.
Unfortunately, after using this, the results were unclear. I believe it's rather disappointing to pay $10 for something that doesn't give clear results.
Technically, the kit isn't hard to use, and the card for the results is useful. However, I'd say donate some blood and they will tell you your blood type, free of charge.
Worked for me
I never had any idea what blood type I was. I asked my doc recently and she sent me off to the blood lab. A few days later she told me I was type A. But what about the rhesus factor? Oh, they don't test for that by default. What? What use is the test then.
So rather than waste another $75 I ordered this kit.
Me and my wife stood and read the instructions then added a drop of water to each of the four test sites.
We swabbed my finger to make sure it was clean, don't want to introduce anything nasty in to a finger. I pulled the cap off the lancet and pressed it on my finger.
*click*
Hmm, did it do anything. Then the blood welled up. Oh. We used the four little stirrers, one for each test, and mixed blood and water with the test material, making sure to mix in the test material from the surface of the card.
The cotton wool sopped up the blood and stopped the leak. By the time I finished worrying about the leak we knew I was A negative.
I washed my hands in warm water before we started, but I had no trouble getting plenty of blood out of my finger.
We've got a bleeder...or not
Yes, I'm giving it a low review because it did not work for me, but it's not for lack of trying or ability to follow instructions. First of all, the lancing device did not work; I twisted, I pulled, I pushed- there was no needle. It must have broken off with the cap. Luckily, I have a diabetes test kit and used the lancing device from my own kit. Still, I simply could not get enough blood flowing out to do the test. Maybe I just don't bleed very well, but I usually have no problem testing for my blood-sugar level. Eldoncard's test does ask for a whole lot of blood. And a working lancing device would have been nice. In the end, it was money wasted.
Simple, Fast, Accurate
I'd always been curious as to my blood type, but never enough to actually go and have it done. My husband (who is an RN) and I discussed using this method--something he thought would be rather fun to try at home. Admittedly, it was far more fun for him (as he was the lancer, rather than the lancee), but I was surprised both at how easy and fast the Eldon test really was. As long as you follow directions EXACTLY, the result would seem to be fast and undisputed: at least it was perfectly readable for us. I suspect that this test is easier when done as a team, as we did, as time is definitely of the essence and having one get the blood on the stick while the other stirs the previous specimen on the card makes things much less frenzied than they might have been. A great, easy, inexpensive test, and one I'd gladly recommend to anyone interested in typing their own blood!
family blood testing
I am currently doing the blood type diet for myself and wanted to see what blood type the rest of the family was,so we didn't have conflict.
so i bought these , they were way more expensive then they are worth.I already knew my blood type so i was the control. yep it came out right for me
so we did the rest of the family, when they all turned out the same we got quite suspicious, does it ever come out with anything other than A+?? we wondered. I was trying to save the cost of going to the doctor's to get typed because of the cost. so now we still don't know if its right. they should include an extra set to make sure.not sure if we were satisfied on this product or not.time will tell.
