This is the Sleep Mate 980A, which adds enhancements to the Sleep Mate 580, including a slight improvement in the sound quality. The Sleepmate 980A is only 3 1/2" high x 5 3/4" around (base diameter) and weighs just 1.5 lbs. It may be compact but it creates a sound field (white noise) for medium to large sized rooms. It does not require batteries and uses standard household current. Sleep problems solved!
We bought this item to use in hotel rooms when we travel. My husband and I are light sleepers and often relied on using the in-room fan/AC as white noise which often was unsuccessful and always inconsistent. After one trip with this product we are sold! We slept perfectly and consistently each night in each hotel room. The various speeds and the adjustments allow you to adjust to your desired noise level. The sound was neither too loud or too soft and very steady and consistent. We have only had to use it on the low speed so far but feel confident it will do the job on high speed next time we encounter really loud neighbors. I highly recommend the Marpac for sensitive sleepers.

This just what I needed to get a full nights rest. The generator helps me to cover up noise from outside that would keep me awake during the night.

I work as a professional mediator and share a suite area with an attorney. I have placed the Marpac outside my office door and it cancels much of the conversation noise coming from the other areas of the suite. I believe it also reduces the possibility that any conversation taking place in my office can be heard outside the office door. This helps support confidentiality and privacy in both practices and also helps ease clients' worries about privacy and confidentiality. Also, the machine issues a constant pleasant air blowing sound without any engine noise or other intermittent noise. I recommend this product for office spaces, where there are similar concerns.
Perfect for babies
I have this for my 2 year old. It is awesome, blocks every sound and she sleeps through anything, the tv, talking, shower, alarm clock, or any other noise in the house. I feel confident that when I put her to bed, she will not wake up because of noise. Will be purchasing another one for the new baby. Can still hear her move and call out with a baby monitor. Actually, it is great, I can hear her noise machine through the monitor and it acts like one in our room also! I love this, and it is so durable.
